I love traveling and sharing what I see and do with my friends.
My late husband and I traveled once or twice a year when we were working. After retiring, we traveled a few more times a year until he passed away. Since his death in 2012, I have been traveling an average of 100+ days a year. I am mainly taking cruises on Holland America or tours with Grand Circle Travel and Overseas Adventure Travel.
After my 2017 67-day Grand South America and Antarctica Cruise, I decided that balancing owning an 80 year old house and doing a lot of travel wasn’t working for me. In October 2017 I sold my house and moved into an apartment in a senior residence community. It is really nice and I can travel even more than I have in the past.

Hi Elsie, We will be on the SA circumnavigation starting Jan 2018. Wonderful to read your blog. Thank you so much for sharing. In our experience, you are doing the right thing re downsizing. We live mostly in a Florida condo and just lock up, disconnect the negative cable to the car battery (important!) and leave–even during Hurricane Season. Two Q’s: (1) what camera did you use on your SA trip and did you have tele lens? (2) I have great difficulty walking and am planning to bring a foldable elect travel scooter with me on the Prinsendam. Would you have an opinion as to how useful this would be in most SA ports? I worry about getting it aboard small tour vans (it would fit nicely in the cargo compt of a big bus). It weighs 54 lbs so I would need help lifting it into a van. And, of course, it does not go up steps!

I have a Canon 50x fixed lens camera which is 4 years old. It is model SX50 HS. It does 50x through the lens and up to 100 digital. I make sure not to go past 50x. I can’t comment on the scooter since I don’t use one but I saw quite a few on board. I didn’t notice any when I was in port but that may have been a timing issue. Try asking on cruisecritic.com.
